Gomukh Trek – A marvelous trek to watch holly rivers and the Source of River Ganga.
Gomukh is in Garhwal Himalayas, it is the source of River Bhagirathi and further becomes River Ganges. It is known as Gomukh because from where the river originates that snout looks like a cows mouth; Gau- cow Mukh- face. This place is a holy site which is worshiped by people along with Gangotri, which is also a holy pilgrimage site.
Gomukh is India’s second largest glacier
Gomukh is India’s second largest glacier and it needs to be traversed to reach. Here will come across many saints living here on permanent basis in caves, they come here for meditation. From here you will get magnificent views of mountains like Mt. Shivling, you get the best sight of it from here. Mt. Meru, Bhagirathi group of peaks are also visible, you get the chance to witness these peaks from very close.
Thrilling Trail In Gomukh Trek
The trail is exciting and on the way you will see many flowing streams and some alluring vast meadows, after crossing the area with alpine vegetation you will come to boulder zone and go through landslide prone areas, weather is not predicted so be careful on these places. It is a moderate trek with some thrills.
