An Unfamiliar High Pass in Himalayas
Nalgan Pass trek starts from Dhaula and ends at Chitkul, it is perched at a height of 4450 meters. Not many people know about this pass, the beauty and the grand views are still hidden from people. It is not recommended for beginners but for experienced it is a great adventure trek.

Our pick up point is the Railway Station of Dehradun, the drive starts from there to Dhaula. Have your breakfast on the way at Kempty fall which is a famous picnic spot.
The drive is an interesting one through some of the beautiful places in Himalayas along the Tons River, the water of this river looks refreshing and crystal clear. Villages en route are Netwar, Damta, Nawgao, Purola and Mori.
Reach Dhaula your campsite for today, altitude is gained gradually. Setup the tents, enjoy your food and sleep comfortably as your trek starts tomorrow.
The trail to Godangsu is a gradually ascending one which levels up ahead. On the way there are many flowing streams and after crossing some you will reach a village named “Sewa”.
Witness the changing sceneries and hear sounds of gushing Rupin River which flows below and further descends to Yamuna. This river is fed by the melting snow of Rupin Pass.
Ahead are many apple and apricot trees, from there steep ascent starts there is a temple made in Kinnauri style after seeing it you can get some idea about Kinauri culture. It is made by the villagers in the remembrance of Karna.
Reach your campsite Godangsu, setup your tents and comfortably sleep in tents.
Have breakfast and start the trek, first you will be going to Jiskun village then Jhaka Bridge. You can reach there after crossing rocky areas and steep ascents but the views of snow covered mountains will make this tough trek enjoyable.
Reach Jiskun, spend some time there then leave for Jhaka. It is a Himalayan village last on the trail also known as “Hanging village”. Further lies your campsite Jhaka Bridge, setup the camps there and comfortable sleep in tents.
Today trek through the slopes, be very careful while your ascent because the slopes are slippery. After the ascent you have to get down to reach River Rupin, after you come there the tough section starts.
On the trail there are many boulders and streams, crossing them is tricky but after it you can reach Suriwas Thach. Setup your camps and explore the nearby areas. Get back early have food and rest for the night.
The base camp is at an altitude of 4200 meters, start early today because there will be snow and it is easy to trek on fresh snow afterwards the trail becomes slippery.
The mountain views will accompany you all along the way, few kilometers further is Nalgan Base Camp. Reach there and wear enough warm clothes because the campsite is cold and windy. Setup your camps and sleep comfortably in tents.
Today is acclimatization Day, go on a short hike nearby and get back to camp before lunch.
Today is the main day of your trek and the climb is thrilling to Nalgan Pass. You have cross the sheer ascents and en route lies Kanasar Lake.
After tough climb to the pass (4450 m) you can see high Himalayan peaks rising in the glory. Get clear views of Kinnaur in Himachal and Garhwal side. Now, start the descent towards Sangla which is through Rukti Gaad. Reach Sangla, setup the camps here and sleep comfortably in tents.
Descent from Sangla to Chitkul. It is Baspa valley’s last village, people live wooden houses there and there are cultivated big fields. Trek through dense forests and beautiful meadows. Chitkul is the ending point of trek.
