Bhagirathi II is the second Highest Peak in Bhagirathi Group
Bhagirathi group is in the Gangotri valley of the Garhwal region and has three high peaks. Bhagirathi II is the second highest peaks in this group at an altitude of 6512 meters. It rises above Gomukh, source of River Ganga.
The Adventure Trail
Base Camp of this expedition is Nandanvan, a wide grassland with greenery and blossoming flowers. Traversing Gangotri glacier is the thrill and further, after gaining altitude the climb gets difficult. You will be needing proper equipment (ropes, ice axe, crampons etc.)
Amusing Sights
Mt. Shivling with Bhagirathi group of peaks is visible from Day 1 and accompanies you. But, Nandanvan offers excellent views of this peak. Ahead catch the sight of Thalay Sagar and Meru Pass.

ATM POINT – Uttarkashi is the last ATM point.
Mobile Connectivity – BSNL signals are available at Gangotri, ahead the connectivity is not good. There will be no networks ahead so finish all your important work and calls before starting of the trek.

Meet us at Dehradun Railway Station and then drive towards Uttarkashi to reach Gangotri. The journey will be along the banks of River Ganga. On the way visit Gangnani; hot spring. Pass through lush green forests and get the views of Great Himalayas and Harsil.
Reach Gangotri, which is famous for a holy pilgrimage. Go to a hotel rest there for some time and then explore this place on your own. Ganga Aarti is very famous here don’t miss to attend that.
Today go to nearby places like Pandavas cave. Get yourself prepared for the upcoming days. After your hike and exploring places come back to the hotel.
Start the trek from the market and pass through the forests section and boulder zone to reach Chirbasa. From here you can have a glance of Gomukh glacier and Bhagirathi group of peaks. Now, head towards Bhojbasa the path is wide the trail will take you through some landslide-prone areas.
En route relish the views of Mt. Shivling and Bhagirathi peaks. As you go higher the trail becomes barren and rocky. Bhojbasa campsite is barren but offers clear and spectacular views. Enjoy the scenic views then dinner and overnight stay are in tents.
First, reach Tapovan, it is famous for its wide grasslands, it is 2 hours away from Gomukh. Ascending is steep but when you reach there the views are striking. Climb the first ridge of Tapovan and cross Akash Ganga before Gangotri Glacier.
Find a route to descent and make sure it is safe. Glacier has thick ice, boulders, and broken rocks, the ice remains slippery so trekking on it becomes difficult.
After the descent starts the 100-meter climb to Nandanvan through the landslide-prone region. Reach the base of Bhagirathi massif and the Nadanvan meadow, you would be surprised by the clear views of Mt. Meru, Kedar Dome, and Mt. Shivling. The meadow is windy, set up your tents and retire for the night.
Go on a hike today, return before lunch and rest for the day.
Today Load Ferry from Base Camp (Nandanvan) to ABC which is at an altitude of 4800 meters. Get back to the base camp
Post breakfast starts the ascent to ABC (4800 m). Overnight stay at Advance Base Camp. Overnight stay at ABC.
Get yourself prepared for upcoming days, go on a short hike and adapt the changes. Overnight stay at ABC.
Load Ferry from ABC to Camp 1 and return to ABC. Overnight stay at ABC.
After breakfast ascent from ABC to Camp 1 which is at a height of 5199 meters. Overnight stay at Camp 1
After loading Ferry from Camp 1 to Camp 2 retrace your steps and return. Overnight stay at Camp 1
Leave Camp 1 and head towards Camp 2. Set up your camps there and retire for the night. Overnight stay at Camp 2
Load Ferry to Summit camp, it is at a height of 6000 meters and gets back to Camp 2. Overnight stay at Camp 2.
Descent from Base Camp to Osla village where you stayed on Day 2. Talk to the villagers and know them closely. Leave Camp 2 early to reach Summit Camp, you loaded ferry yesterday, today open the fix ropes and sleep early because tomorrow is the first summit attempt.
Start the trek around 3:00 am because the climb is technically difficult and it would take time. Return to summit camp.
A day reserved for Summit climb if you were unsuccessful in your first attempt due to any reason.
Extra Day for Summit attempt
Start the descent from Summit Camp to Advance Base Camp. Overnight stay at ABC.
Today get back to Nandanvan by descending from ABC. Set up your camps there and comfortably sleep in tents.
Today rest at the Base Camp (Nandanvan) and relax.
Descent to Bhojbasa and take a break at Gomukh. Retrace your steps and reach the campsite. Setup the camps and comfortably sleep in tents.
From Bhojbasa descent to Gangotri, downhill trek is steep on moraines. With a smile bid goodbye to Mt. Shivling’s view.
Reach Gangotri and in the evening you can visit the Aarti and Lord Shiva’s temple. Check-in a hotel and retire for the night.
Post breakfast, depart to Dehradun.
